Michelle Clayton Appointed as Executive Director of Knoxville Family Justice Center

Knoxville, TN — The Knoxville Family Justice Center proudly announces the appointment of Michelle Clayton as its new Executive Director. Michelle brings over 14 years of dynamic leadership experience in educational settings and nonprofit organizations, extensive strategic partnerships, and nonprofit leadership expertise.

Most recently serving as Vice President of Development and Strategic Partnerships at the Knoxville Area Urban League (KAUL), Michelle demonstrated exceptional leadership in expanding revenue streams, fostering high-level partnerships, and implementing strategic initiatives.

"Michelle Clayton's appointment represents a significant milestone for the Knoxville Family Justice Center," said Mike Hammond, Board President of the Knoxville Family Justice Center. "Her proven track record in nonprofit leadership and dedication to improving community outcomes make her the ideal leader to guide our efforts in providing vital services to survivors of domestic violence and abuse."

Before her role at KAUL, Michelle held several leadership positions within Knox County Schools, including Assistant Principal roles at West High, Central High, and Austin East High. In 2019, Michelle was appointed Executive Principal at Richard Yoakley Alternative School, where she spearheaded staff development and utilized data-driven strategies to enhance educational outcomes. Her career also includes serving as Correctional Principal at Mountain View Youth Development Center, focusing on curriculum development for incarcerated youth, and leading the education program at Florence Crittenton Agency for youth battling substance addictions.

Michelle holds a Specialist in Educational Leadership and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education and History from The University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL. Her educational background has equipped her with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead the Knoxville Family Justice Center.

Michelle also shared some personal details about herself. She is a devoted wife and a proud parent of two amazing children. Music is a significant passion of hers, and she has been fortunate to perform with the Knoxville Opera Company and other esteemed organizations. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Bijou Theatre and Marble City Opera Company.

Michelle Clayton expressed her honor in joining the Knoxville Family Justice Center and leading efforts to empower survivors and foster a community where safety and support are paramount. She looks forward to collaborating with the dedicated team and community partners to achieve sustainable change and ensure every individual has access to the resources they need to thrive.
